Bogolan

Cloth traditional West African, bogolan goes back to an era remote. Legend has it that his discovery was accidental: a woman with his stained skin loincloth to n'galama with mud from Niger had tried in vain to clean it, the mud was tinged with an indelible fabric, remained to reproduce this chemical reaction. No date was advanced.

Bogolan is probably with the fabric or Kenté Kita, the technique of dyeing textile African world's most widespread.

The origin of the name comes from the Bogolan Bambara: BOGO = clay, mud and with LAN = makes.

Several ethnic groups still maintain the traditional technique of bogolan, the Dogon, senoufos, Malinké and Bambara. Only the latter realize our Bogolans in our workshops.

If the source, bogolan had special significance in the light of reason and represented colors used (or codified accurate, and clothing and traditional motifs will make the functions and uses, such grounds loincloth for the Bride, as another for the girl, for the neo-circumcised, for the hunters, for marriage.) now it is in Western countries mainly decorative.

For older women in the past, men were trained in these techniques and have become real artists, they express their artistic creativity mixing graphics and aesthetic traditions.

But if some seem creations "for every day," remains the manufacture and traditional crafts. These new artists are evolving artistic and on the basis of traditions, they only distract the use of Bogolan: Western clothing, furnishings (curtains, above bed, seats ...)

Support: virgin fabric of 100% cotton
